To Shut Or Not To Shut? That Is The Question

Ok, I think it’s fair to say that as a football fan Transfer Deadline Day is AMAZING! It’s right up there with Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries… Ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration… Anniversaries are nowhere near as important and memorable as Transfer Deadline Day!

My point is that it’s a beautiful day. You sit there engrossed with Jim White and Kate Abdo (hubba hubba) on Sky Sports News and you’re transfixed. Nothing else matters.

But from a practical point of view, should the transfer window be closed before the start of the season? As entertaining as the deadline day is to watch, as a supporter of a smaller team it’s annoying when your club has spent a whole summer assembling a squad only for it to be picked apart just a few weeks into the season because a bigger club has had a bad start and are panic-buying to rectify it, which seems to be what many clubs are doing nowadays… cough, cough… Chelsea… cough, cough… Man Utd…

If the window was slammed shut before the season started we could still have the drama of Transfer Deadline Day with Jim White and Kate Abdo (hubba hubba… Sorry, reflex action) and then once it closes, that’s it! Every club has to make do with what they have until January. At least then smaller clubs wouldn’t be picked apart and then managers will have to show what they’re really made of, making use of their resources.

That’s my view. What do you guys think?
