I was actually meant to write this a couple of days ago, but there was no wifi in this flat (eyes rolling)!
So here I am again, back in this madness that is the Edinburgh festival. My shows don’t start until tomorrow (Wednesday) but I’ve been here a few days now to move into the flat and get settled etc. Am I happy to be back? Well, let’s summarise the good points and bad points of my first few days:
Bad Points:
- Global warming still hasn’t kicked in yet, meaning the weather is as ‘delightful’ as always!
- No wifi or TV in my flat which has meant my flatmate and I have had to ‘have a conversation’ (cue gasps)… I know! How bizarre! In the 21st century, a time of mobile phones and digital TV, and we’ve actually had to talk! (I’m playing)
- I set off the smoke alarm as I didn’t know how to use the oven properly and then couldn’t turn off the smoke alarms for a good 5 minutes. My ears are ringing just thinking about it!
- I haven’t seen another black person for daaaaaaaaaaaaays!
- The local shops still don’t do West Indian groceries. They claim to have a ‘world foods’ section but all they have is Uncle Ben’s rice and Oriental noodles. Where’s my hard dough bread, where’s my gungo peas, where’s my bigga drinks?
Ok, and the good points:
(None)
So, moving on swiftly… Nah, I’m playing with you. All is cool up here. Yea it’s the same Edinburgh from last year but it’s cool. Actually there’s a Nando’s at the top of my road so this month may be better than expected! I suspect I’m gonna be filling up A LOT of loyalty cards over the month.
Anyway I shall keep you all posted with how things are going.
Peace,
Nath.
Yo Bro,
I used to live in London and I relished the great array of foods that could be purchased there, including afro/carribean foods.
My african friend from Ivory Coast introduced me to a dish called icheki (not sure of spelling) but its a cassava ground down andis looooovely.
I missed it sorely when moving back to Scotland.
I however found that there is an african supply store in Gorgie Road!!!!
Not sure if he does hardo bread, but he does, proper sweet potato, yam, plantain, gungo peas snapper ect ect. he used to live in London. So get your self down Gorgie for your supplies. Sorry can’t tell you exactly the address but its close to wardlaw st I think..
